About
StitchConverter converts your embroidery files between the PES, DST, JEF, EXP and VP3 formats, free and without sign-up. Here is who builds it, how it works and what funds it.
Why this converter exists
StitchConverter started from a very concrete problem: getting a design embroidered on a machine whose format does not match the file you received. A design delivered as DST for a Brother machine, a PES to open on a Husqvarna: the design is right, the embroidery is impossible without a conversion. The free tools I found back then added watermarks, limited design size, or demanded a sign-up for a single file.
The idea was simple: a converter that does one thing — cleanly convert an embroidery file to your machine's format — with no ads, no watermarks, and no account required for normal use.
Who is behind the site
My name is Lorris Crappier, I am a developer and a machine embroidery enthusiast. StitchConverter is an independent project: no agency, no venture-backed startup, no machine-brand subsidiary. I design the site, maintain the converter, and answer the messages received at stitchconverter.thickness053@simplelogin.com.
How the conversion works
The converter is built on pyembroidery, the open-source reference library for reading and writing embroidery formats (PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3 and many more). Each conversion reads the stitches in your file, normalizes them and writes them into the target format: the stitch count and the design dimensions are preserved.
The conversion runs on a server located in the European Union. Your file is deleted immediately after the result is sent back: it is never stored, analyzed or shared with a third-party service. No artificial intelligence is involved in the processing: it is a deterministic transformation of your file — what embroidery software does, without the drawbacks.
How the service is funded
Free use — 2 conversions every 24 h, no sign-up — covers occasional needs. For heavier use (shops, batch design creation, clubs), the 24-hour pass and the monthly plan lift the limit. It is the site's only source of revenue: no advertising, no data resale, no trackers.
Under the hood
The site is a static site served from the Cloudflare network; the conversion API is a FastAPI service hosted on a dedicated Hetzner server in the European Union. The converter relies on pyembroidery and the open-source embroidery ecosystem, notably Ink/Stitch, whose documentation has been an invaluable resource.
